Jo An Ma

Jo An Ma is a distinguished educator holding both a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Cambridge, specializing in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies and Business Management.

Jo An was born and raised in Hong Kong, where she studied at both local and international schools. At her international school, she excelled as a model student, where she had the honour to advance from Year 7 to Year 9, equivalent to skipping from Form 1 to Form 3 in Hong Kong's education system.

At the age of 14, Jo An went to the United Kingdom to further pursue her studies. During high school, she developed a passion for public speaking. She won the overall championship at the renowned Shropshire Festival of Verse and Prose, along with three additional second runner-up awards.

She graduated from Concord College, a distinguished boarding school, with remarkable results of 10A's at GCSE and 4A's at GCE A Levels, which led to her acceptance into the University of Cambridge. Notably, she was admitted to the Asian and Middle Eastern Studies programme, which accepts less than ten students each year.

Jo An's academic excellence also earned her a place at Judge Business School to study Business Management, where she completed a double major.

Jo An's academic pursuits included a year of study at Doshisha University, a leading private university in Japan, focusing on language and translation. She also gained practical experience through internships at a financial consultancy in London and a prominent digital strategy consultancy in Tokyo.

After graduation, Jo An dedicated herself to the field of education, beginning as an educational consultant before becoming a senior English teacher at an international school, where she taught A Level English, GCSE English, and IELTS. She was subsequently invited to join Beacon College, Hong Kong's only publicly listed private supplementary secondary school education services provider, as a star tutor.

With extensive experience in tutoring and educational consulting, Jo An has successfully taught a diverse range of students, from children to adults, earning their respect and trust. Her unique background in both Hong Kong and British education provides her with valuable insights into the challenges faced by Hong Kong students in learning English. Jo An tailors her teaching to meet individual educational needs, employing a progressive approach that begins with foundational concepts and incorporates exam strategies. She designs engaging teaching techniques and shares methods that make learning enjoyable.

Jo An specializes in teaching IELTS English, DSE English, IGCSE English, as well as Economics and Business Studies.

Jo An Ma is an experienced tutor who has been guiding students since university. Specializing in English and Economics, she provides comprehensive support to help learners excel in major international examinations, including GCE A-Level, IGCSE, IELTS, DSE, IB, and SAT. Her expertise across multiple curricula enables her to tailor lessons to meet each student's unique needs—whether they require foundational understanding, advanced problem-solving techniques, or exam-specific strategies.

Since her university years, Jo An has focused on tutoring students in English and Economics. After graduation, she became an educational consultant and academic advisor, assisting students in gaining admission to top overseas universities. Subsequently, she taught Senior English at an international school, delivering instruction for IGCSE English, GCE A-Level, and IELTS.

Jo An was later invited to join Beacon College, a publicly listed tutoring institution in Hong Kong, as a star tutor. In her first year, she specialized in IELTS and junior secondary English (Form 1-3). In her second year, she expanded her teaching to cover English across all secondary levels (Form 1-6). In her third year, she also served as a Day School teacher and Class Teacher while continuing to teach IELTS and English for Form 1-6. She also provided specialized support for students with special educational needs (SEN), building her reputation as a versatile and dedicated educator.

Jo An Ma is the Hong Kong Representative for Miss Supranational 2024, as well as the Second Runner-Up for Miss Earth Hong Kong 2024 and the First Runner-Up for Miss Grand Hong Kong 2023, where she also received the title of Miss Popular.

Driven by a desire to create a positive impact and increase her exposure, Jo An embarked on her pageantry journey alongside her professional pursuits. In her inaugural international competition, she achieved remarkable success as the First Runner-Up and Miss Popular in the 2023 Miss Grand Hong Kong pageant, one of the prestigious Big 6 international beauty pageants.

Her elegance and poise left a lasting impression, leading to her invitation and selection to represent Hong Kong at the Miss Supranational International 2024 competition, also part of the Big 6, held in Poland.

After her experience in Poland, Jo An participated in the 2024 Miss Earth Hong Kong competition, a notable Big 4 pageant, where she proudly secured the position of Second Runner-Up.
